UB Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine physician Marc Fineberg, M.D. joined the Buffalo Sabres as team physician on their recent NHL Premiere trip to Europe, accompanied by fellow team physician Dr. William Hartrich.
The team completed the preseason with a win against German Elite team Adler Mannheim in Mannheim, Germany on October 4, 2011, and then opened their regular season with two victories. They defeated the Anaheim Ducks in Helsinki, Finland on October 7, and then returned to Germany to defeat the L.A. Kings in Berlin the following night. It was the first regular season NHL game ever played in Germany. Hopes are high for the team after a solid start, knowing that the last few Stanley Cup champions started the season in Europe.
In addition to caring for the team, Dr. Fineberg had an opportunity to compare notes and swap ideas with some of his European colleagues. He also enjoyed the Finnish cuisine, cycling the hills of Heidelberg, and touring historic Berlin.
