John Leddy, M.D., Director of the UB Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine Concussion Clinic, participated in an informational discussion session about concussion management and awareness. The session was held at Cardinal O’Hara High School in Tonawanda, New York, and was sponsored by N.Y. State Assemblyman Robin Schimminger.
Guest speakers at the event were Dr. Leddy and former Buffalo Bill Mark Kelso, who spoke about his personal experiences with concussion and the helmet he designed to reduce the risk of head injury.
The discussion, primarily aimed at the student athlete, focused on the new “Concussion Management and Awareness Act”, which will establish statewide safeguards to protect student athletes from brain injuries while participating in interscholastic sports and physical education classes.
