Ann, a patient at UBMD Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, is 79 years old and has worked at Shea’s Performing Arts Center for over 34 years. At her job, she is on her feet for as much as 13 hours at a time, giving tours and telling people about the history of not only Shea’s, but of Buffalo itself. She also has 15 grandchildren that keep her as active as ever. Over the years, Ann has paid visits to many of our physicians and staff members for various health issues, and recently reached out to share her story and compliments for the positive attitude and service she receives every time.

“I have been a patient for many years. I’ve seen Dr. [Bernhard] Rohrbacher, who saved my daughter from a life of permanent disability and took care of me. Dr. [Matthew] Phillips, who kept me from a wheelchair with my hip replacement, and Dr. [Thomas] Duquin who replaced both my shoulders, and eliminated the pain in my arms and shoulders,” said Ann.

Ann started her care at UBMD Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine in the care of Dr. Phillips who handled her hip replacement – care that Ann attests saved her from being wheelchair-bound due to the pain she was in before her procedure. After she underwent her hip replacement, she saw Dr. Duquin for both her shoulder replacements.

“Dr. Duquin is so down to earth and honest with you,” said Ann.

Ann has also received physical therapy services in the care of Scott Dinse and Michael Kemkpe.

“Scott Dinse took excellent care of my needs many, many times,” said Ann. “God bless all of these highly skilled and talented medical people. My latest visits, I saw [physician assistants] Greg and Joshua – both very helpful. I am very grateful for UBMD Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine.”

In addition, Ann has taken advantage of UB OrthoCare for urgent care needs, saying she has visited the clinic for a few fractures she’s had over the years. Ann is currently waiting on a potential knee replacement, which will be performed by Dr. Phillips, and she is excited to be relieved of her pain and confident to be in his trusted hands.

“My experience with all of UBMD Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine’s staff members is always extremely pleasant,” said Ann. “It may seem strange, but I look forward to my appointments.”

Ann also isn’t the only member of her family who has been helped by the doctors at UBMD Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine. Her daughter has received care from our physicians, something that Ann credits with restoring her daughter’s quality of life.

UB Ortho patient Ann's daughterWhen Ann’s daughter was just 6 years old, she was involved in a horrible accident where she was hit by a recreational vehicle. After she recovered from the incident, Ann’s daughter was barely able to walk 200 feet without falling. Ann took her daughter to physical therapy and to various orthopaedic physicians throughout the Buffalo area, but none were able to pinpoint the problem.

By the time she was 18, Ann’s daughter was referred to Dr. Rohrbacher, who was straight out of his residency program. In what Ann describes as a miracle, he knew exactly what to do. He ordered a stress radiograph which showed that the ligaments in her ankles were extremely stretched. A treatment plan was decided on right away to help Ann’s daughter be able to walk again without falling.

After three surgeries with Dr. Rohrbacher and additional post-operative therapy, Ann’s daughter was able to not only walk again, but ice skate, ski, run and more. Today, Ann’s daughter is 44 and has a fulfilling career helping others herself as a speech pathologist.

Our entire team is proud to have provided both the care and support to help Ann and her daughter to continue to live and enjoy their very active lives.
