UBMD Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine is expanding its orthopaedic services south of Buffalo. Hip replacements and hip arthroscopy will now be performed at the Southtowns Surgery Center in the BrookBridge medical park (5959 Big Tree Road in Orchard Park). Orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Brian McGrath, is the first surgeon to perform hip replacements in a Southtowns outpatient facility. In addition to Dr. McGrath, Dr. Geoffrey Bernas and Dr. Jeremy Doak also perform hip arthroscopy in the Southtowns Surgery Center.
Because of the innovative technology and spacious surgery suites at the Southtowns Surgery Center, a Kaleida Health affiliate, surgeons like Dr. McGrath are able to perform complex surgeries that would typically be done in a hospital setting.
The availability of the Southtowns Surgery Center in the BrookBridge medical park eases the transition from pre-surgery to post-surgery, especially for orthopaedics. UBMD Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine surgeons are able to see their patients for office visits in the same building as the surgery center. “The Southtowns Surgery Center is great for our surgeons and patients because everything we need is under one roof. From in-office visits, imaging, surgery, and physical therapy – we have it all here,” says Dr. Brian McGrath.
Dr. McGrath continues, “This concierge level of care is convenient and personalized for the patient. Patients are able to park their cars and walk right into the surgery center, without the trouble of navigating through multiple departments and buildings. After surgery, patients recover in their own homes. We use the Visiting Nursing Association of Western New York to take patients home, open the door to their home and check in on them over the weekend. It’s top level care, and we’re so happy to offer this to our patients.”
In addition to many varieties of orthopaedic surgeries, the Southtowns Surgery Center also offers general surgery, plastic surgery, ENT, gynecology, radiology, podiatry, and now lithotripsy.
While Dr. McGrath is the first to perform hip replacements in Orchard Park, he is closely followed by his partners at UBMD Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine – and others – who will begin performing joint replacements and spine surgery within the next six months. Currently, sports medicine surgeons are already performing minimally invasive arthroscopy surgery in the Southtowns Surgery Center, and hand surgeons are able to perform intricate surgeries at the center.
