Western New York native and Board Certified member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, Dr. Matthew DiPaola has recently joined the growing medical team at UBMD Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine. Dr. DiPaola, an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in shoulder and elbow surgery, will be available for new patients this July.

Dr. DiPaola joins UBMD Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine after spending the past seven years practicing at Wright State University in Ohio. Prior to his work in Ohio, Dr. DiPaola graduated from Cornell University, while earning All-Ivy and Academic All-Ivy honors for Cornell’s varsity football team. He graduated with honors in research from the Cornell Medical College, and completed his orthopaedic residency at the prestigious Rothman Institute at Thomas Jefferson University. In 2009, he completed his fellowship at the NYU Hospital for Joint Disease.

Specializing in upper extremity surgery, Dr. DiPaola finds orthopaedics to be a meaningful blend of art and science to tangibly and positively impact the lives of his patients.

“Helping others who are struggling through painful and difficult conditions on a regular basis motivates me to continue researching better solutions to these problems and inspire the future generation of surgeons that I train to do the same,” says DiPaola.

Surgeries performed by Dr. DiPaola include rotator cuff repair, arthroscopic shoulder surgery, total shoulder replacement, reverse total shoulder replacement, shoulder fractures, bicep tendon repair, elbow arthroscopy, elbow replacement, trigger finger release and carpal tunnel release.

Dr. DiPaola will begin seeing patients July 5, 2016 at the UBMD Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine offices on Harlem Road in Amherst and at the Summit Healthplex in Niagara Falls. Dr. DiPaola will be joining The Advanced Orthopedic & Spine Center at Buffalo General Medical Center, one of the most unique hospital-based orthopedic centers in the nation as well a market leader in technology. In addition, he has privileges at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center and VA Western New York Healthcare System.

Currently, UBMD Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine employs 35 orthopaedic and sports medicine physicians, and more than 250 employees in Buffalo, Amherst, Niagara Falls and Orchard Park. Later this year, the group plans to add two more surgeons to their roster.
