As a foot and ankle orthopedic surgeon surgery, my clinical expertise is in the operative and nonoperative treatment of foot and ankle disorders. With a unique background as a former physical therapist, I have dedicated my career to providing exceptional and holistic care to patients suffering from complex orthopedic conditions.
My journey began as a young student with a fascination for human anatomy and a deep-rooted desire to help people recover and regain their mobility. I pursued a degree in physical therapy and spent years working as a dedicated therapist, witnessing the transformative power of rehabilitation firsthand. This initial phase of my career taught me the importance of understanding the intricacies of the human body, the art of patient-centered care, and the value of compassion.
During my time as a physical therapist, I couldn’t help but be drawn to the complex cases that required surgical intervention. I also found myself curious about the possibilities of guiding patients through the entire journey of recovery. This curiosity led me to pursue a medical degree, followed by a residency in orthopedic surgery and finally a fellowship in foot and ankle surgery.
Dr. Freeland’s journey to becoming an orthopedic surgeon began with a strong foundation in physical therapy. He completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy at the University of Buffalo, where his passion for helping patients regain their mobility and function first took root. Dr. Freeland earned his medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Philadelphia, where he also completed his orthopedic surgical residency. Following residency, he remained in Philadelphia where he completed an orthopedic foot and ankle fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania.
After completing fellowship, Dr. Freeland spent nearly a decade at the only Level One academic trauma center in southern New Jersey. There, he provided crucial care to patients with complex orthopedic injuries, many of whom had suffered severe trauma. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Freeland has authored numerous research papers and contributed to advancements in the field of orthopedic foot and ankle surgery. His passion for education and sharing his expertise has led him to serve as a mentor and educator to the next generation of orthopedic surgeons. Dr. Freeland’s commitment to staying at the forefront of medical knowledge ensures that his patients benefit from the latest surgical techniques and treatment options.
Dr. Freeland is thrilled to return to his hometown, where his journey began, to join the University of Buffalo. His homecoming represents a full-circle moment in his career, as he brings with him a wealth of knowledge, experience, and a deep-rooted commitment to serving the community where he grew up. Patients can expect compassionate care, a comprehensive understanding of their orthopedic needs, and access to the latest advancements in foot and ankle surgery under Dr. Freeland’s expert guidance.
