University at Buffalo athlete Allie Mazur and Chicago Bears tight end Zach Miller have a unique bond – their shared experience with an external fixator – and they recently had the chance to meet in person when the Bears visited the Buffalo Bills at New Era Field.

Mazur and Miller shared similar severe leg injuries, requiring the use of a device known as an external fixator. Both Mazur and Miller required the use of the external fixator – a device with metal rods that’s designed to help stabilize and support the leg while working to spur bone regrowth and lengthening – to help recover from medical issues. Miller’s injuries came on the NFL field in New Orleans, while Mazur’s occurred as a complication of surgery to help stabilize a stress fracture, but their shared experience brought them together.
During the recent Bills-Bears game, Miller had a chance to surprise Mazur with a visit on the sidelines. Bills management worked with the Bears to make the visit possible, providing tickets and access for Mazur and her family. They were also joined by Mazur’s orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Evgeny Dyskin with UBMD Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine.
