UBMD Physician to Present at Shoulder Arthroplasty Course

May 19, 2023 - May 20, 2023

new york shoulder arthroplasty course

Attention orthopedic surgeons, orthopedic residents, shoulder and sports medicine fellows, nurse practitioners, physician’s assistants, and physical and occupational therapists!

Don’t miss an opportunity to learn about shoulder arthroplasty from a distinguished faculty lineup of shoulder arthroplasty surgeons from around the U.S. and abroad at the inaugural New York Shoulder Arthroplasty Course, an in-person educational event scheduled in New York City, May 19-20, 2023.

Among those making presentations is Thomas R, Duquin, MD, Associate Professor and Director of Medical Student Education in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Buffalo’s Jacobs School of Medicine. Board certified in orthopaedic surgery, Dr. Duquin earned his M.D. at the University of Buffalo and received specialty fellowship training at the Mayo Clinic in shoulder and elbow surgery, the primary focus of his practice.

The course will offer various topics ranging from preoperative evaluation to treatment of complications, including primary and complex revision cases, and numerous subjects in between. Course content will immerse attendees in a fast-paced program utilizing multiple formats, including lectures, panel discussions, roundtable discussion, re-live surgery and debates specific to the challenges of shoulder arthroplasty.

The ever-increasing role of shoulder arthroplasty in clinical care, plus an exceptional faculty and the New York City location guarantees this course will be well attended by a host of healthcare professionals.

Attendees will come away from the course being able to:

  • Integrate preoperative imaging studies and planning software to enhance planning and performance of shoulder arthroplasty.
  • Understand the indications of anatomical and reverse shoulder arthroplasty and recognize these conditions that can be suitably treated by each surgical procedure.
  • Improve their understanding of component placement for anatomic total shoulder arthroplasty and the steps necessary to balance soft tissues.
  • Design patient-specific and procedure-specific postoperative rehabilitation programs to optimize outcomes.
  • Develop and employ strategies to minimize postoperative complications.
  • Utilize new technology platforms for postoperative monitoring of patients’ progress and integrate these into their day-to-day practice activities.

Hosts for the inaugural event are NYU Langone Orthopedics, the Campbell Clinic and Hospital for Special Surgery. The course will be held at the InterContinental New York Barclay, where a limited number of rooms have been reserved. A reservation weblink is available on the course website. Participants are asked to make their reservations before or by Thursday, April 27, 2023.

As part of the promotion of this unique course, organizers are offering 50 percent off registration fees for trainees (orthopedic residents and fellows) planning to attend.
