Exertion Test Resources

Exercise intolerance is a hallmark symptoms of concussion and exertion tolerance. Testing is safe to perform as little as the day after concussive head injury when patients are still symptomatic, as long as stopping criteria are followed. Exercise testing, such as the Buffalo Concussion Treadmill Test can cause worsening of symptoms while walking on the treadmill, but these go away on rest and does not prolong recovery or cause adverse events. The presence, and severity of exercise intolerance, can be used to diagnose or clear patients with concussion, and can be used to prescribe a sub-symptomatic aerobic exercise prescription.
