Program Offerings Tailored to Your Needs

Physical therapy can serve as a nonsurgical solution for minor injuries or conditions, or it may be required for a patient after a serious broken bone, muscle strain or joint injury. Physical therapy is also often part of the recovery plan from joint replacement or other orthopaedic surgery. Overall, the goal of training is to strengthen muscles in order to help patients find pain relief and restore normal functionality and movement.

Our physical therapists focus on treating each individual with personalized, compassionate care, which is why we develop a unique plan for each patient that works to promote healthy and safe movement, reduce pain and sensitivity, restore control and function, and prevent loss of motion or disability. Patients in our physical therapy program start with an initial consultation, followed by a regimen of care tailored to their unique needs and recovery goals.

Primary Treatment Program

For certain injuries or conditions, physical therapy is the best first course of primary treatment. In some cases, the right physical therapy can help prevent the need for surgery and can help reduce or eliminate the need for pain medications. Our experienced team can work with you to develop the right program for your injury or condition, as well as your personal recovery and capability goals.

Physical Therapy for Bone, Muscle & Joint Injuries

While a broken bone or damaged muscle or joint heals, you often need to wear a cast or brace, thus restricting motion and causing weakness in supporting muscles. Once the injury has healed, physical therapy can help you recover any lost muscle control and can help you get back your normal range of motion and functionality. Orthopaedic physical therapy exercises are designed to build strength and flexibility in the area of your body impacted by injury, allowing you to return to your daily life or athletic pursuits more quickly.

Proper Medical Equipment

Your healing journey may include the need for temporary braces, splints, crutches or other supportive devices. For your convenience, our in-house team can provide you with these items, including custom-made equipment as needed, along with proper fittings and alterations.

Our team of highly trained, licensed physical therapy professionals at UBMD Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine are experienced in working with patients with a wide range of limited functional mobility and strength issues. They are here to help aid in your recovery, using their expertise to provide compassionate care on your path to restoring your confidence, strength and mobility.

Blank
Do I have to be a UBMD Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine Patient?
No, you do not. Our Physical Therapy team gladly accepts any patient who would benefit from therapy on a direct-access basis, meaning you do not have to be referred by a UBMD Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine physician. However, we encourage you to check with your referring physician and insurance carrier to see what may or may not be covered for you.
What Should I Wear to My First Appointment?
Comfortable workout or loose-fitting clothing is best. If possible, try to wear clothes that allow you to expose the skin in the area being treated. During the initial evaluation and follow-up visits, the therapist will often need to access your skin, muscles and joints around the affected area in order to assess and treat the problem effectively.
What Should I Expect During My First Appointment?
During your initial consultation visit, a licensed physical therapist will screen your injury/ailment, and take baseline measurements of your strength, flexibility and mobility. This will help better determine a personalized plan of care. Often a brief physical therapy treatment will also be provided on the first visit, and the therapist will work with you to develop a home exercise plan when appropriate.
Is Physical Therapy Painful?
Our experienced physical therapists work with you to mitigate your pain. The goal of physical therapy is to alleviate discomfort and improve function. Your therapist will continuously check in to monitor your pain during each session and will help you minimize unwarranted discomfort.
