Board-certified and fellowship-trained shoulder and elbow surgeon Thomas R. Duquin, MD, is in an evaluation with Zimmer Biomet on the new ROSA® Shoulder System, the only FDA-cleared robotic system for anatomic and reverse shoulder arthroplasty.
This marks a significant milestone, as UBMD Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine has become the third site in the world to perform a robotic shoulder arthroplasty, following closely behind the Mayo Clinic’s pioneering surgery earlier this year.
“Robotics is emerging as a useful tool in many areas of medicine and surgery,” says Dr. Duquin. “Robotics offers the opportunity for improved precision and accuracy of implant positioning in shoulder arthroplasty. The combination of 3D Planning and Robotics provides surgeons with a better understanding of the patient’s anatomy, and the ability to place implants in the optimal location.”
Dr. Duquin and Zimmer Biomet’s commitment to leading-edge orthopaedic care opens up the possibility to offer UBMD Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine patients a new standard of precision and personalized treatment options.
“The ultimate goal of robotic-assisted total shoulder arthroplasty is to improve patient outcomes and implant longevity,” says Dr. Duquin.
