Dr. Asheesh Bedi recently gave the 20th Ralph & Mary Wilson Visiting Professor Lecture to orthopaedic staff, residents and fellows at the Erie County Medical Center.
Bedi came to Buffalo from the University at Michigan and MedSport Program, where he serves as a Harold and Helen W. Gehring Early Career Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and professor of sports medicine and shoulder surgery. He presented two topics – “Hip Preservation in 2019: Current Accomplishments and Future Challenges” and “Management Options for Massive Rotator Cuff Tears.”

A respected researcher in shoulder, elbow, knee and hip injuries in athletes, Bedi has authored more than 100 articles. He also received the Neer Award from the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons in 2010, and also received the Cabaud Award from the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. In addition, he serves as a team doctor for the University of Michigan and Eastern Michigan University, and also consults with the NFL and NHL Players’ Association.
The Ralph & Mary Wilson Visiting Professor Lectures are a biannual symposium sponsored by a legacy grant, originally awarded to the department in 2015 by the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation. The grant also supports the educational efforts of the Department of Orthopaedics in the Sports Medicine Instruction Laboratory and is used to foster clinical and translational research.
Following his presentations, Bedi was given a crystal buffalo as a memento to thank him for attending and participating in the ongoing lecture series.
